Why people stay

Choosing an accountant is mostly about whether you trust them to pick up the phone.

Four things I'd want to know before handing over my books.

01

You get me, not a call centre

That mobile number in the header is mine. You won't be handed to whoever happened to pick up the phone, and you won't have to explain your business twice.

02

Transparent pricing, up front

Starting prices for everything are on the site, so you know roughly what it costs before you call. Your own fee depends on volume and complexity, and it's agreed in writing before any work starts.

03

Deadlines are my problem, not yours

VAT, RTI, payroll, accounts, Corporation Tax and the Confirmation Statement. I track every filing and payment date, remind you well ahead of time, and make sure nothing slips.

04

Advice you can act on

Producing the figures is the easy part. The useful part is spotting where the business is leaking money, and telling you about it in plain English.

Who you’ll be dealing with

Hello, I’m Tom Davison.

Seven years in practice and three years in industry means I’ve seen the numbers from both sides: how they get produced and how they are used to run a business effectively. I’m MAAT qualified and specialised in audits and working with sole traders, owner-managed companies, consultants and start-ups, although I’ve worked with businesses across a wide range of industries. I take deadlines seriously too: every filing deadline I’ve been responsible for has been met on time, and none of my clients has ever picked up a late-filing penalty.

In their words

The bit I can’t tell you myself.

Since working together, Tom has been very helpful, patient and understanding of what I needed for my business. He really took the time to understand my personal situation and has so far helped me to get my finances more in order and manageable. Would definitely recommend.

It’s not often I leave a review, but I couldn’t help myself. Red Roman are amazing, Tom is just so bloody helpful. I honestly cannot fault him. Especially as I’m very unorganised and slightly “technologically challenged” it’s even more appreciated to find knowledge, patience and diligence all in one. 100% recommend and I will continue working with Tom for the future without a doubt.

Tom has been a genuinely wonderful find. He’s handled bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll and year end accounts for us, general advice, and the difference is night and day. Everything is accurate, on time and explained properly, so we always know exactly where we stand. The best bit is how he makes it all feel simple, and explains things in plain English. Professional, sharp, quick to reply and generally a pleasure to work with. If you run a business and want an accountant who genuinely cares, Tom is the one. Can’t recommend him highly enough

Tom provided an amazing service which was professional and carried out in timely manner. He went above and beyond with some advise and recommendations for us going forward which was a real value. We highly recommend Tom to anyone looking for a personal and professional approach to financial services.

Switching over

Already with an accountant? Changing is easier than staying put.

You do not need to wait for your year end, or have the awkward conversation.

  1. 1

    Tell me what you've got

A ten-minute call or a WhatsApp message is enough for me to quote properly.

  2. 2

    I do the awkward bit

I write to your current accountant, get your records, and register as your agent with HMRC. You sign two forms.

  3. 3

Your fee starts, your deadlines don't move

Fixed monthly fee agreed in writing, or a one-off fee if you would rather. Software licence set up if you need one, and every filing and payment date in the diary from day one.

Straight answers

The questions people actually ask.

Mostly about money, which is fair enough.

How much will it actually cost me?
Starting prices for every service are published on this site, so you don't have to book a call to find out roughly what you'll pay. Sole traders start at £30 a month and limited companies at £190. Your final fee depends on how many transactions you have and how tidy the records are, which is why two businesses on the same package can pay different amounts. Whatever yours works out at, I agree it with you in writing before any work starts, and it doesn't change unless the scope does.
Why a monthly fee instead of one bill a year?
Because nobody likes a large accountancy bill arriving all at once. A monthly fee keeps your costs predictable, makes cashflow easier to manage, and means the work is dealt with throughout the year rather than left until the last minute. It also usually works out cheaper than paying for each service individually.
Are you qualified?
Yes. I'm MAAT qualified, a full member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, and the AAT supervises me for anti-money-laundering. I hold professional indemnity insurance and I'm a Xero Level 3 Specialist, QuickBooks Level 2 certified and a Sage partner. Behind that is seven years in practice and three years in industry.
Where are you based, and do you work with businesses elsewhere?
I'm based in Canterbury and work with clients across the UK. Most of what I do runs perfectly well remotely, but if you're local and would rather sit down together, that's easily arranged.
Do I need to be VAT registered to work with you?
No. Plenty of my clients are below the threshold. If you're getting close to it, I'll tell you before you cross it rather than after.
I've taken on staff. Does that push me up a package?
Not automatically. Each package covers payroll for a set number of people, and anyone beyond that is £7 each per month rather than a jump to the next tier. Sometimes the tier above does work out better value, and where that's the case the package finder shows you both so you can compare them properly.
Which software do you use?
Xero, QuickBooks or Sage, whichever suits you best. I'm a Xero Level 3 Specialist, QuickBooks Level 2 certified and a Sage partner. On the Essentials plans and above your licence is included in the monthly fee, so there's no separate subscription to pay.
I'm already with another accountant. Is switching a hassle?
Not for you. I write to your current accountant for professional clearance and your records, then register as your agent with HMRC. You sign two forms and I handle the rest.
What if I don't know which package I need?
That's completely normal, and most people don't when they first get in touch. The package finder takes about a minute and will point you at the right one. Or just message me and I'll tell you straight, including when the cheapest option is the one you want.Get in touch
